Octopus 3 presented as the third in a series of annual exhibitions that displays the work of significant artists and current tendencies in art practice locally and nationally. The series as a whole, provides a forum for new curatorial and artistic positions, and promotes opportunities for contemporary Australian artists to present new work within a critical and supportive public context. In an exhibition characterised as much by its diversity of forms as by the rich and intriguing correspondences between things, Octopus 3 presented newly commissioned and recent work by Melbourne-based artists Nadine Christensen, Simon Horsburgh and Sally Mannall; David Griggs and Shaun Gladwell from Sydney; and Sarah Ryan from Tasmania. Developed by guest curator Charlotte Day, Octopus 3 — Still time explored the poetics of space, time and technological mediation, with reference to new psychologies of perception and the artistic possibilities of distraction.
