In these uncertain times, Missing Links takes form as Gertrude’s evolving response to and reflection upon an upended world now experienced in isolation. Incorporating an expanding series of musings contributed by exhibiting and Studio Artists at Gertrude focusing on artworks that are missed and longed for as a physical, sensorial encounter, Odes to the Absent evolves as an archive of love letters to artworks from which we are now separated. Working with our friends at Bus Projects, Missing Links includes pod casts of Gertrude Studio Artists in discussion through the series Gertrude Talks, presented live weekly on Bus Radio with host and current Gertrude Studio Artist Georgia Banks throughout April and May 2020. In the expansive street-viewable foyer spaces of Gertrude Contemporary and in the window vitrine of Gertrude Glasshouse, we present a responsive exhibition Hope in the Dark, giving artistic form to the confusion, vulnerability, isolation and potential for optimism within this period of extreme uncertainty.
