Artist Talk

Gertrude Contemporary

21-31 High Street, Preston South

Friday 12 June, 5pm

Join us on Friday 12 June from 5pm for a discussion with Artistic Director Mark Feary and exhibiting artist Shireen Taweel on the occasion of the artist's solo exhibition pacing seven circles at Gertrude Contemporary.

The artist talk will celebrate the launch of significant monograph Shireen Taweel: The Trig Point (2026), published by Art Ink, and be followed by the exhibition opening event from 6 – 8pm.

The Trig Point is a substantial new monograph tracing Taweel’s practice across copper, celestial navigation, sacred architecture, fieldwork, installation and speculative forms of embodied space. The publication brings together major bodies of work from across Taweel’s practice, with an essay by Anneke Jaspers and a conversation between Noura Al Sayeh Holtrop and Shireen Taweel.

Published alongside major 2026 and 2027 exhibition iterations, the trig point is presented at Mosman Art Gallery, pacing seven circles is presented at Gertrude Contemporary (2026), and a forthcoming iteration will be presented at Dunedin Public Art Gallery (2027).

This project is supported by Creative Australia’s Visual Arts and Crafts Strategy (VACS) Major Commissioning Projects fund.

The publication is a first edition of 650.
