Yusi Zang

2024 - 2026
Working with painting and sculpture, Yusi Zang (b. Beijing, 1991) meticulously presents her sometimes somber, sometimes hilarious (often both) and always self-reflective vision of the world. Born in Beijing and having lived in Melbourne for the last 10 years, Zang finds herself somewhat 'between cultures', but she probably wouldn't be able to sit still no matter where she was. Zang’s works strive for a level of realism that either mimics or extracts from the reality inherent in the everyday objects she responds to. Using an approach that breathes new life into frequently overlooked or dismissed objects, at times abject in their invisibility. Her paintings, sculptures, and installations transcend the banalities of existence through humorous invention, reconciling concepts of boredom and the sublime. Yusi Zang is represented by Animal House Fine Arts and is currently a studio artist at Gertrude.
